From Prague to London to Wonca25: FLASH at the Forefront of Health Policy Discussions

In recent months, several events have been organized within the framework of the FLASH Project, providing valuable opportunities to share our research findings at both European and international levels.

On 26 September 2025, researchers from Work Package 5 (WP5) participated in the Workshop on Patients’ Rights and Rare Diseases in the EU in Prague. Jana Votápková presented a theoretical model to compare hospitalization prices across different reimbursement systems, while Anne Spranger and Adam Ander contributed to a panel discussion on the main barriers to accessing healthcare services abroad. The workshop—one of twelve EU-funded national events—fostered dialogue on cross-border healthcare and allowed us to share ongoing insights on patient mobility and access to care across the EU.

The FLASH Project was also represented at The Economist’s 2nd annual Future of Health Summit in London, where our coordinator, Paolo Pertile, spoke about innovative approaches to shaping the future of healthcare. The event brought together leading experts to discuss key challenges and opportunities facing health systems worldwide.

Finally, at Wonca25, we presented new results on how financial incentives and information provision influenced the recovery of primary care quality indicators after COVID-19 (2019–2024; 287 primary care physicians in Catalonia; over 5 million patients). Incentivized indicators recovered faster (85% vs. 50%), and information alone supported improvements even before financial incentives were introduced. These findings provide important lessons for the design of future value-based healthcare and pay-for-performance schemes.

Through these engagements, FLASH continues to contribute to the European and global conversation on improving healthcare accessibility, performance, and resilience through evidence-based policy.
